Pertama kali saya mendengar nama ini saya agak bingung karena band ini menggunakan nama sekolah yang benar-benar ada. Ya, Abingdon school adalah nama sekolah di Oxfordshire, England yang seluruh siswanya adalah pria dan merupakan salah satu sekolah tertua di Inggris. Dan ternyata, setelahnya saya mengetahui bahwa mereka menggunakan nama Abingdon school karena vokalisnya, Takanori Nishikawa , adalah seorang fans Radiohead dan seluruh personil dari Radiohead bertemu ketika mereka bersekolah di Abingdon.
Berbicara mengenai Takanori Nishikawa atau lebih sering kita kenal dengan nama T.M Revolution yang saat ini sudah berumur lebih dari 36 tahun dan telah memiliki banyak karya mulai dari film, photobook, sampai dengan puluhan single yang telah ia keluarkan rasanya memang tidak pantas jika ia memperkenalkan dirinya kembali sebagai ?anak sekolahan? seperti yang band abingdon boys school lakukan. Tidak hanya Takanori Nishikawa saja yang tidak pantas disebut anak sekolahan, seluruh personil dari abingdon boys school sudah tidak pantas lagi disebut ?anak sekolahan?. Seluruh personil abingdon boys school bukan lagi ?bocah ingusan? di dunia permusikan jepang. Namun, seperti yang dikatakan dalam website abingdon boys school bahwa mereka memilih nama abingdon boys school untuk merepresentasikan diri mereka bahwa dengan semangat anak muda dan pada bentuk yang paling murni(jiwa muda) inilah abingdon boys school akan berkarya dan menciptakan musik mereka.
abingdon boys school adalah group band rock yang terdiri dari 4 orang, yaitu Takanori Nishikawa sebagai Vokalis yang juga dikenal sebagai T.M Revolution (Takanori Makes Revolution) dan telah 17 tahun berada di belantika musik jepang. Toshiyuki Kishi sebagi Programmer dan Keyboardis yang biasa membantu vokalis papan atas bernama Ryuichi Sakamoto dan Tomoyasu Hotei dalam setiap konser live mereka dan membantu Takanori Nishikawa beberapa kali dalam pembuatan album T.M Revolution. Dan Hiroshi Shibasaki dan SUNAO sebagai Gitaris, keduanya merupakan additional personil T.M. Revolution yang banyak berkontribusi dalam album T.M Revolution.
Yang lebih menariknya additional drummer mereka merupakan orang yang lebih terkenal dari abingdon boys school sendiri melalui sebuah band bernama The Alfee yang telah lebih dari 33 tahun berdiri. Koji Hasegawa merupakan drummer untuk band the alfee dari tahun 1983 ? 2005. Sampai akhirnya Koji keluar dari The Alfee dan membentuk Cube-Ray dimana ia bertemu dengan Ikuo, additional bassist untuk abingdon boys school.

abingdon boys school berdiri pada tahun 2005 ketika Takanori Nishikawa mendapatkan proyek untuk membuat album tribute to NANA , sebuah tokoh khayalan yang sangat terkenal yang ingin dibuat filmnya pada tahun 2005. Saat itu ia membuat abingdon boys school dan menulis lagu yang berjudul stay away untuk abingdon boys school bawakan di album various artist yang berjudul Love for NANA . Setelah itu, mereka menyanyikan ulang lagu dari band Buck-Tick untuk album tribute band Buck-Tick yang berjudul Dress. Setelah itu pada tahun 2006 mereka meluncurkan debut single mereka yang berjudul Innocent Sorrow yang dipakai untuk anime terkenal berjudul D.Gray-Man dengan b-side berjudul Fre@k Show yang dipakai untuk film yang sangat terkenal di jepang, Death Note: The Last Name. Lagu-lagu pada single Innocent Sorrow adalah lagu-lagu rock keras dengan distorsi yang poll dan banyak scratching DJ yang membuat lagu-lagu pada single ini sangat keras dan juga enak di dengar karena komposisi yang pas. Pantas saja jika lagu ini pernah melejit ke tangga keempat di Oricon Chart Weekly .

Setelah 8 bulan tidak terdengar pada bulan Mei 2007 mereka mengeluarkan lagi single baru berjudul Howling yang merupakan OST untuk anime berjudul Darker Than Black dan sekali lagi mereka melejit di tangga keempat di Oricon Chart Weekly dengan musik di single Howling yang sangat keras dan banyak terdengar double bass dari drum Koji Hasegawa. Dan 2 bulan kemudian bulan July 2007 mereka mengeluarkan single terbaru mereka bernama Nephilim dan merupakan OST untuk game FolksSoul. Meski penjualan Nephilim hanya setengah dari single pertama mereka Innocent Sorrow yang mungkin dikarenakan single ini berisi lagu yang cenderung slow , namun single Nephilim ini dapat mencapai peringkat kelima dari Oricon Chart Weekly .
Di jepang, sebuah band yang dapat terpilih untuk OST sebuah anime ataupun film merupakan sebuah bukti bahwa band tersebut akan melejit sukses di pasaran dengan single tersebut. abingdon boys school dan ketiga single-nya berhasil terpilih untuk OST anime, film dan bahkan game di jepang. Apakah ini sebuah tanda-tanda bahwa mereka akan terus menciptakan lagu-lagu yang bermutu di masa depan?
Bagi yang penasaran dengan mereka, anda semua dapat menunggu album dari band ini yang akan dikeluarkan pada tanggal 10 Oktober 2007. Kalau saya jelas saya sangat penasaran dengan materi baru dari band ini karena sampai saat ini saya selalu terkesan dengan gaya mereka memainkan musik dan mencampur sampling ke dalam lagu mereka.
